Elephant Gathering
Safari at Minneriya National Park
Known as one of Greatest Wildlife Wonders of the World by Lonely Planet and listed as one of the Top Wildlife Spectacles by BBC and CNN… the gathering is the largest congregation of Asian elephants… on earth. Hundreds of wild elephants from different herds meet at Minneriya National Park… to play, frolic in water, socialise and even find mates.
This phenomenon happens just twenty minutes from Habarana Village by Cinnamon – and it happens every year, peaking from July to October.
Bird & Butterfly Trail
The ecosystem around us at Habarana Lodge by Cinnamon was carefully designed to invite nature in all forms. Thankfully, nature responded in a chirpy, colourful pattern.
48 species of birds and 50 different kinds of butterflies flock around in our abode seasonally. So, wake up a little early and take a stroll in our expansive lush gardens and spot them all.
You will also be guided by our naturalists who will tell you endearing stories on bird behaviour. Watch out for a young eagle screeching atop a branch or kingfishers and whistling teals darting across our endless pathways.
Walk a little further to spot butterflies fluttering around the bushes in our organic garden. The tiger butterfly is the most common variety and the others in various colours will leave you in awe of nature’s creativity!

Polonnaruwa Tour
Take a bicycle tour around Polonnaruwa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and go back to an era of beautiful art and architecture.
Start from the Archaeological Museum, that houses a marvellous collection of bronze statues, some ancient medical instruments, and a topographical model of the city, as it presumably looked like in the past. The museum introduces you to the impending journey with replicas of the original ruins too.
Once you’ve taken in all the information, head to see the palace built by King Parakramabahu I between the period of 1153 – 1186, the Parakrama Samudra, Dambulla Rock Temple and Sigiriya.
Make sure you climb up the Sigiriya rock too. A mighty reminder of the ancient kingdom of Sigiriya, it is one of the most visited UNESCO World Heritage Sites of the country.
The art and architecture, the urban hydraulic system around the site, and the breathtaking views from the top make for a mesmerising experience for the heart and mind.
Dambulla Cave Temple
Visit the renowned Dambulla cave temple, the sacred pilgrimage site which is the largest best-preserved cave-temple complex in Sri Lanka.
Explore the cave walls and ceiling that are entirely painted with depictions of early Buddhist historical events and murals and houses 157 statues.
Like all the other cave temples, this one is dimly lit, preserving the vibrant colors of the special paintings and murals.

Loris Watch
Since our naturalists are accustomed to this unique sanctuary of flora and fauna, you can trust them to guide you effortlessly through the night walk.
They’ll use torches with relatively less obtrusive red lights to search for the loris and switch on the white lights only when they spot one.
These arboreal animals have long slender bodies and big round eyes that shine in the darkness. Besides the loris, you might spot mouse deer, civet cats and rabbits too.
A walk around this natural haven might give you an experience you’ll cherish for a lifetime.

Elephant Safari
Ever come so close to an animal, that you felt its warm and intimidating vibe at the same time? Well, here's your chance. Take a jeep safari to the Minneriya and Kaudulla National Park, and the echoes of trumpets will reach you before you find a herd of elephants crossing the dusty road, while carefully sheltering the calf of the family.
When elephants walk with the calves, they get overprotective and a little more aggressive. It’s quite endearing to watch them guard their babies so powerfully. If you’re lucky to catch a herd at its active best, you’ll spot each member extend its trunk towards another, almost like they’re doing a group handshake.
The presence of a water reservoir is the reason why Kaudulla is home to around 250 elephants. However, the annual gathering of approximately 300 elephants at the Minneriya National Park, every July, has been rated as the 6th greatest Animal Spectacle by Lonely Planet.
