Located on the edge of the ocean and lagoon is the Anantara Kalutara Resort, a true luxury in its definition. The hotel boasts a massive 141 rooms that include both suites and rooms. The hotel has been designed keeping relaxation as it's fundamental aspect in mind. Wellness was a central ambition when designing the hotel and features various wellness activities including a fully pledged spa facility. Among other facilities are a full size pool, facilities to observe a cooking demonstration and a kids club.
The hotel also operates a rent a cycle facility or you could choose to simply wander around the lush gardens. The hotel features a low roof and cooling terracotta tiles, together with well lit common spaces to complement the airy architectural style of legendary architect Geoffrey Bawa. This is clearly evident throughout the hotel. Three excellent restaurants offer cuisines from Sri Lanka to Europe, South East Asia, The Middle East and beyond.
You could even book a lantern-lit dinner right on the beach or facing the lagoon for a romantic experience. Best if you are looking for a romantic evening with good food, drink and the perfect ambience to match.
One of the final architectural mile stones of the legendary Geoffrey Bawa is located on the western shores of Sri Lanka whilst being not too far away from the city of Colombo. The Blue Water Hotel & Spa Wadduwa is central to the concept of water, water & more water. The vast blue seas adjoining the hotel is filled with ponds, slides and fountains, just bringing a true sense to its name.
The beach breeze just sweeping across your face, along with acres of lush coconut land has been rightfully chosen to encompass what this hotel stands for, which is achieving a fine balance between luxury and nature. The Blue Water has 140 rooms aesthetically divided into different categories, all of which are tastefully appointed. The modern furnishings featured still upholds decades of history from a bygone era, along with some replicated furnishings that make up the interior. The hotel serves delicious cuisines combining local and international delicacies at both of their two restaurants, with "Nautilis" being their fine dining restaurant.
Two full size swimming pools, a well-equipped gym and a squash court makes up the sports and leisure element of their range of facilities. The hotel also boasts their very own private night club operational on Saturdays. The Spa is staffed by Balinese therapists and offers a wide range of therapeutic treatments. The veranda bar and the pool bar serve drinks to end the day with a statement.

A stay at Heritance Tea Factory would not be complete without an adventure through the neat terraces of tea. This excursion is a tad bit different from your typical day trips. Ever wondered what it would be like to stand amid the bushes of tea or maybe what it feels like to be a tea taster?
Here’s your chance to experience it all.
Don’t forget to indulge in a lovely high tea session at the terrace, the Hetthersett bar or Goatsfell bar. The Terrace, the Topiary Garden, the Goat fell Bar – wherever you take it, the divine delights – sweet and savoury, and pots of pure Ceylon teas are beyond compare. Indulge to the brim in our unique style of tea factory.
For the ultimate holiday souvenir, how about taking home a packet of tea that you picked yourself.
At Heritance Tea Factory we will deck you out in local attire – saree for the ladies, sarong for the gentlemen – and provide you with a basket in which to collect your leaves.
Then we will take you out to our organic tea fields and show you which leaves to pluck. You’ll find that it takes a bit of practice to make sure the leaves end up in your basket rather than on the floor.
Our professional tea pluckers will accompany you – you’ll be amazed at how efficiently and quickly they manage to fill their baskets by comparison. Luckily, we don’t expect you to produce the minimum 15kg a day that is their target.
Then we return to the Heritance Mini Tea Factory, where our chief tea taster, Nadaraj, will inspect your efforts. He will reject any leaves that are unsuitable, so you must pay attention when picking, or all your efforts will be in vain.
Nadaraj will take you on a tour of the Mini Tea Factory and explain the whole process, from the initial drying (withering) of the leaves, through rolling, fermenting and sifting, to produce the different types of tea.

In rural Sri Lanka, a ‘watch-hut’ is adopted as an elevated refuge for the farmer to protect the cultivation overnight. In retrospect, this is a contemporary style elevated estate villa nestled on a raised terrain of a 40 acre estate in Matugama, where the rubber plantation stops and the jungle begins. It’s unique and elevated sitting allows a breath taking view of the estate, the valley below and hills beyond, leaving you in lush green seclusion.
Tranquil it is, but do speak to a member of staff regarding local attractions to enhance your experience at The Ark.
A stay at the Ark is Non Seasonal apart from the Monsoon rains between October to the end of December.
Pearl Holidays UK can tailor make your Beach Holiday Package that covers Bentota, Beruwala and Galle to include a night or two at the Ark.
Please speak to or email your Pearl Holidays UK travel consultant as this venue is subject to availability.
Built a century ago, in the time of the British Governor, Henry Arthur Blake, the Sanctuary at Tissawewa, known as Grand Hotel Anuradhapura back then, is a colonial style hotel that encapsulates undeniable old-world charm.
Tissawewa Grand became Tissawewa Rest House after Sri Lanka gained independence in 1948. Recently, in 2013, Quickshaws gave the hotel a makeover complete with extensive renovation and refurbishment and named it Sanctuary at Tissawewa.
Today, the Hotel retains its colonial allure while also being equipped with all modern amenities. Just a stroll along the veranda with its tall, white columns, overlooking the sprawling lawn, evokes a sense of grandeur that makes one want to wake up here, day after day, feeling like royalty.
Not surprisingly, these halls and rooms have been graced by royalty including Queen Elizabeth herself. Prime Ministers Lee Kuan Yew, and Moraji Desai, and President Zia Ul Haq are some eminent personalities to enjoy quickshaws brand of hospitality right here at Tissawewa.
Anuradhapura
Anuradhapura was the capital of ancient Sri Lanka for a thousand years before and after Christ - in effect from Old Testament Nebuchadnezzar to the Normans and William the Conqueror, losing ground to the empire building Chola rulers of the 10th and 11th centuries.
Its dagobas (shrines), which when built, were only shorter than the great pyramids of Giza.
Excavations have yielded copper kilns from 900 BC, Brahmi inscriptions, and pot burials from centuries before that. Its Port Mantai, drew Arab and Chinese traders exchanging silk, ceramic, spices, and other trade goods.
Anuradhapura itself was the centre of a fertile "rice bowl", supported by a vast network of reservoirs and irrigation canals which are engineering marvels themselves. With this wealth, successive kings built the massive brick and granite monuments, many lost to invaders and invading jungle: what remain today are mostly religious monuments, inspired by the philosophy of Buddhism.
Ruwanveli Seya
Venerated as the most sacred place of worship in Anuradhapura, this temple stupa was built by King Dutugamunu who reigned from 137BC to 119BC. The King defeated the South Indian invader Ellara, united the country under one rule, and then began its construction.
Ruwanveli Seya is said to enshrine the relic of the Lord Buddha. It is also one of the three places graced by Lord Buddha during his visits to Sri Lanka. The temple is considered one of the tallest monuments in the world.
Isurumuniya Rock Temple
Isurumuniya, standing just next to the Tissa Lake, beautifully combines spirituality with art. It is renowned for its stone carvings of which the most famous one is the “Isurumuniya Lovers”. The other carvings are of horseman, bathing elephants and the royal family.
The temple was built by King Devanampiyatissa, who, during his reign, ordained 500 children to a life of priesthood and dedicated the temple as a monastic complex to house them all. The most popular tale about the lovers carving here is that it depicts Prince Saliya, the son of the great King Dutugamunu, and his lower caste mistress Asokamala. In the name of love, the Prince gave up the right to be King and married Asokamala.
Myth also has it that this temple and its pond were used by the King to perform ceremonies to the gods of rain.
Jethavanaramaya
With an original height of 400 feet, this was considered to be the tallest Buddhist stupa in the ancient world. It is believed that this monument was built upon the enclosure where Mahinda Maha Thero, the monk who brought Buddhism to Sri Lanka, was cremated.
Named after the coastal landscapes that have drawn travellers here for centuries, our home of Sri Lankan hospitality is no stranger to visitors from around the world. Conceptualized by world-renowned architect Geoffrey Bawa, Jetwing Beach is a wonderful example of local design fused with modern architecture, creating a natural invitation that is fitting of our hometown heritage.
Sharing the strip with our family of Negombo hotels, the Jetwing legacy shines as bright as the sun upon our resident shores. Here, at one of our landmark homes on this tropical island, our nostalgic values meet beachfront luxury in an atmosphere that is bound to pamper and enchant you.
